Breeders Cup Horse Racing

Off to the Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita, which hosts the 2019 World Championships for a record 10th time. I was in attendance for some sensational races at Santa Anita for the 2016 Breeders’ Cup including the epic neck-and-neck stretch duel between six-year-old mare Beholder and unbeaten 3-year-old filly Songbird, who was beaten for the first time in 11 starts by Beholder by a nose.

Value and longer shots are the way to cash in at the Breeders’ Cup with larger fields and more opportunities for a bigger score. Plenty of betting guides, racing tips and opinions for the Breeders’ Cup if you’re interested in wagering a few dollars. If you’re not able to get to the track at Santa Anita, or to a casino or OTB site, legal online sites like TVG, a digital, cable and television network owned by the FanDuel Group are your best bet. TVG has an easy easy sign-up option to assist you when betting on the horse and races, and tools to assist you including betting guides, tips and strategies.

For the second straight year, ‘Future Stars Friday’ leads off the Breeders’ Cup. All five juvenile races for 2-year-olds give us a glimpse of some of the future stars of horse racing. Race 9 is one to watch with some of next year’s Kentucky Derby favorites coming out of the $2 million TVG Breeders’ Cup Juvenile.

This year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile champion will be an early favorite for the 2020 Kentucky Derby and as such it makes this a very important Breeders’ Cup race with the winner gaining much attention in the months ahead.

Post time on Nov. 1 is 7: 03 ET, and the favorite in the 1 1/16 mile TVG Juvenile is Dennis’ Moment (8/5), a son of Tiznow trained by Dale Romans and ridden by top jock Irad Ortiz, Jr. The nine horse field also has Eight Rings (2-1) and one of those two is the likely winner with longer shots more likely in other races. Maxfield (3-1) is a son of Street Sense and was one to watch but has been scratched.

Eight Rings has won 2-of-3 starts and lost his rider in a September race at Del Mar. But he came back to win impressively by 6 lengths in the American Pharoah Stakes (G1) Sept. 27 at Santa Anita. Eight Rings will be tough to beat as the likely pace setter with Hall of Famers John Velazquez riding and trained by Bob Baffert.

The Santa Anita dirt track is now softer and deeper and Eight Rings has already show he can handle the surface on the front end.

But this race is the opportunity for Dennis’ Moment to shine through. He’ll have to do so breaking from the rail and risk getting blocked in if he fails to get up towards the front. Also 2-for-3 with his stakes debut win Sept. 14 at Churchill Downs in the Iroquois Stakes (G3), Dennis’ Moment beat another BC Juvenile runner Scabbard by nearly 2 lengths. Dennis’ Moment was a 2-5 favorite in a field of 10 in the Iroquois, and came back to post a bullet 4 furlong workout Oct. 25 at Santa Anita with the best time of 51 runners at the distance that day.

No value on Dennis’ Moment as the favorite drawing most the wagers, but he’s a potential superstar heading through the Derby preps and drawing the most ‘buzz’ for this race at the Breeders’ Cup. Longshot considered underneath is #4 Storm The Court (20-1).

Other Breeders’ Cup betting options on Friday and considerations with insight in the West Coast Handicapping Report from proven So. California handicapper Rob Heine.

Race 5: Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint – 5 furlongs.

Race 6: Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf – 1 mile.

Race 8: Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf – 1 mile.
